15 WINS FROM 15 STARTS
It was a huge weekend of celebration for the Chase family of Taupo as bothers Cohen and Wyatt Chase between them picked up three more national motorcycling titles.
Cohen won the both the junior 125cc/250cc and National 125cc classes, while younger sibling Wyatt won the 13-16 years’ 85cc class.
Not only did the two KTM riders both win, but they also both achieved a perfect score-line – 15 wins from 15 starts in three classes – Cohen won all five junior 125cc/250cc class races and did likewise in the National 125cc class, while Wyatt won all of his five races in the 85cc grade.
“I’ve been training hard for this and I’m a lot fitter now than ever before,” said Cohen Chase, who also won the national junior 15-16 years’ 125cc motocross title in April.
“I first rode the KTM250F four-stroke for the first time after the junior motocross nationals in April, but I’ve adapted pretty quickly to it. It’s a great bike.
“I love the TT-style races. It’s a flat track and there aren’t so many big berms to slow you down.”
Runner-up to Cohen Chase in the National 125cc class at the weekend was Rotorua’s Nathan Sharland (KTM), who ended the weekend with a score-line of 2-2-2-2-3, while another KTM rider from Rotorua, Nathan Henderson, took third spot on the podium with a 3-3-3-3-2 score-line.
Sharland also finished runner-up to Taupo’s Ben Townley (Honda CFR450X) in the enduro class, while Henderson took a Kawasaki KX250F to also finish runner-up to Cohen Chase in the junior 125cc/250cc class.
Cohen Chase previously won the 8-12 years’ 85cc title at the TT champs in 2010, while Wyatt Chase previously won the 8-12 years’ 85cc title in 2011 and again last season.
